Shamrocks and Crowns

Thankfully I found some time to sneak away this past weekend and do some creating. I've been crocheting Shamrocks (in various sizes) and was itching to use one. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I must admit I am pleased with the results. I have some Irish background on my father's side of the family and since green is my favorite color ... well, the rest just came together.

As you can see, I spent some time playing with pink too. Something "girly" to share ...

My Shamrock project includes gorgeous Striped Ribbon ... it comes in so many wonderful colors. You can find assortments of buttons here. I absolutely adore the Beau Chateau Designer Papers with the chicken wire, polka dots, and roosters ... what's not to love?! I also included a mini clothespin in the bow - sweet as can be. A long weekend at home ...

Hello friends! I've enjoyed a few days off from work to spend time at home. The kids have a long weekend and we've been enjoying each others company. It's been too cold for long walks in the woods but tomorrow promises to be better. I spoiled myself and purchased a new camera....which I used for today's post. I love the photos it takes and the quality of the zoom images. However, there is soooo much to learn - my photos may suffer from quality issues for a while!

Since these both are for a special friend, I don't want to say too much and spoil some pending surprise. So for today I'll simply share the photos and wish you all a wonderful evening.

Snowy weekend

We are snowed in this weekend. Finally, a small taste of winter has arrived. Only three inches of white fluffy flakes blanket the ground, hardly enough to be "snowed in" I must admit, but it's fun to pretend. We all have hunkered down in front of the fire...watching movies and eating popcorn...cozy and warm.

I was given a printed image some time ago from my SIL Shirley. It shows three happy pipers playing and dancing. They look adorable in their balloon shorts and tights. I image them as wandering minstrels from the Middle Ages. The background of green hills and trees made it perfect for my first St. Patrick's Day card. A combination of different shades of green print with neutral patterns came together nicely behind my happy pipers.

Happy St. Patrick's Day is stamped in Old Olive Classic Ink. Pleated Satin Ribbon is now available in our Occasions Catalog (there's a link on the left). It's gorgeous and comes in wonderful colors ... this one is Pear Pizzazz.

I combined grosgrain ribbon with hand dyed seam binding to make my bow. Two velvet leaves add texture while a button sits atop each pennant.

Green is my favorite color and it was fun creating this to share with you today. I hope you enjoy it too.

Audubon morning

Goodness, it has been nearly a week since my last post. We've been busy running here and there ... living life. Last Saturday I spent a glorious sunny morning with my son and members of the local Audubon Society. It was an incredible experience. With the guidance of knowledgeable birders, my son added over 20 new birds to his list...both Common and Hooded Merganser, Bufflehead, Redhead, Sharp-Shinned Hawk, and more. It is amazing the beauty that surrounds us ... we just need to open our eyes to see it.

I just can't get enough of the sweet red felt hearts found at my local craft store. This one is framed in antiqued chipboard and layered on burlap and linen. An adorable heart embellished with a decorative pin and button. The background prints are from my scrap drawer with the exception of the silhouette paper ... that is from our gorgeous Timeless Portraits collection. I'm sure you recognize it from previous posts. The greeting is detailed with pearls and says the sweetest things.

Now, about that bow ... I may have over done it but I just couldn't help myself.

Pink petals

Hello friends and happy February! Sifting through my papers, which are in desperate need of organization, I happen across a beautiful package of prints sent to me from Kirsty. She's a wonderful artist, a kind soul, and heads up the Design Team over at The City Crafter. A print of soft roses leapt into my hands as did a pink paper rose I've squirreled away for I don't know how long. Too precious to use but yet never getting the admiration it so deserves. So I decided to put the two together. Unfortunately my precious rose was waaaay too big for this project ... so, I did what any one of us would - I tore it apart. Yep, dis-assembled it piece by piece. Now I have lots of rose petals to play with and I couldn't be happier!

My crocheted rose is nested into a twist of shabby fabric and layered on top of some precious pink petals. I tucked a velvet leaf or two underneath and embellished it with hand dyed yellow seam binding. A couple decorative pins peek out from behind the many loops. The doily was created with Sizzlits Paper Doily Die and brushed with ink.

A simple tag, some string, and a few buttons convey a heartfelt message - one that can serve any occasion but speaks volumes with the love that created this card.

Finding a place for everything ...

It's good to organize, tidy up, or otherwise "find a place for everything". We all do it ... occasionally. And whenever I do I am always pleasantly surprised by what I find. Today's treasure was a sheet of printed daisies. Bright cheerful colors in a variety of colors - they have me thinking of warmer weather as the snow blows outside. Inspiration is found in many places.

A mix of printed papers in shades of green and tangerine made a pleasing combination. I used First Edition along with Paisley Petals and our new Everyday Enchantment found in the Sale-A-Bration catalog.

A shabby bow is a must for anything I create. This one is made of hand dyed seam binding in a light shade of blue ... embellished with matching deep green decorative pins.

A bright tangerine button, a treasured daisy, and happy words of greeting are layered simply and become the center of attention.

things i love ...

There's nothing left now of the snow that fell on Friday. Three inches of accumulation drew me out the door to shovel the driveway. Now, the rain last night and the nearly 50 degree weather today will wash it all away. I'm sad to see it go ... the cleanliness of a pure white blanket. There will be no ice fishing for my two Boy Scouts this month.

Another card created Saturday with friends was a mix of deep reds and soft pinks. The checked paper is from my scrap drawer while the cameos and polka dots are found in the Timeless Portrait collection. Each sheet is gorgeous and since all of our papers are double sided there are many wonderful ways to mix and match.

While browsing through a local craft store (there to find the right shade of green yarn - something you'll see in the future), I happen across a roll of red felt hearts. I was thrilled! Funny how it's the simple things that bring such joy. Stitched on my card front gives a "cottage" feel to my project.

My bow is hand dyed pink seam binding. I added a few embellishments such as a velvet leaf, decorative pin, and the sweetest little pink flower. I love the fullness created with seam binding. Misting with a mixture of alcohol and Shimmer Paint makes the "ribbon" stiff and easier to shape.

Be My Valentine

Yesterday was wonderful. Friends filled my afternoon with stamping, laughter, and great conversation. Our monthly gatherings are a time to de-stress and enjoy the company of our "sisters". It amazes me to think we've been doing this for over 10 years. Some have come for just that long while others are newer to the group. Regardless of who or how many attend, we are lovers of pretty papers, glittery embellishments, and one of a kind results ... kindred spirits appreciating our time together.

I crocheted hearts for everyone in a lovely coral to coordinate with these gorgeous papers. They are from our newest collection being released in just a few days. This sweet heart sits on up-cycled corrugated cardboard that has been brushed with paint and "glitterfied" with mica flakes along with Beau Chateau paper in soft shades of blue print shaped with the Decorative Label Punch.

The bow is made of Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon and hand dyed seam binding. Decorative pins from Viola and a button with natural hemp are added for texture.

Finally, the banner is from Sweet Cake, a new stamp set in our Occasions Mini Catalog (there's a link over on the left if you want to see more). The Chantilly Lace is beautiful with these papers.

A heart to share

I admit I am crazy for hearts lately. I'm crocheting them like mad and enjoying every minute! I have friends coming over next weekend for our monthly get-together and I'll certainly have to plan a project that has a heart for everyone! For now, I placed one on this Valentine to share with you today.

I love our striped ribbon as much today as when it first came out. I love how it feels and it ties so beautifully. Paired up with red satin makes for an incredible bow. The white "doily" beneath is new - cut with the Paper Doily die...a touch of ink on the edges makes it shabby. Layered on top is a calendar print from the Beau Chateau Side Notes collection.

I crocheted the heart with red twine and love how it turned out with a vintage country feel. Another button and the perfect greeting with pearls makes it complete.

Thanks for your patience as I work through my Valentine craze. How about something in pink?

I've been away too long and it's so wonderful to be playing with my papers once again. Life gets too busy sometimes without a moment to steal away. Over the past couple weeks we've celebrated a birthday, attended volleyball clinics, made gifts for friends (shhhh) and enjoyed other family distractions. I never tire taking my dears here and there ... watching them play with friends, challenge themselves with new adventures and achieve their goals. I realize now that rock climbing is something for the young and brave at heart.

I am in LOVE with our new products in the Occasions Mini catalog. There's a link on the left so you can see for yourself. Here I inked up Sweet Cake in Real Red ink. A bit of Dazzling Diamonds glitter and a heart (Small Heart Punch and Red Glimmer Paper) on top makes this cupcake "oh so sweet".

Red Satin Ribbon with Bakers Twine and a button is the perfect embellishment. Be sure to add a heart shaped tag with a mini pearl for your Valentine.

Since I don't speak French, I thought it best to find out before I place it front and center. Jacqueline tells me it means "I Love You" ... thank you! I adore the color red but mostly in more earthy shades ... like those found in the autumn months. However, when Valentines Day draws near - I can't get enough of red polka dots!

Digging through my scrap paper drawer I found plenty. The paper used here is from the Love Letter set and is currently on clearance! Beau Chateau Side Notes surrounded by a glittery frame provides the focal point.

Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon combined with a stripe of cranberry and white are tied tight with seam binding and string. My numbers are stamped in Cherry Cobbler punched with the Jewelry Tag punch. An old button and embellished stick pins complete the bow.

To finish I used Pinking Hearts Border Punch and a sweet red button tied with cotton twine.

Hello friends. I hope you are beginning your Holiday festivities with friends and family. I am officially "on vacation" from the office and have two glorious weeks home with those I love. Last night was my Book Club discussion group. We just finished "The Incredible Life of Henriatta Lacks" and celebrated the Holidays together with a cookie/ornament exchange and a bit of Eukere. It was such fun ... thank you Sue for hosting!

I love the classic colors and the traditional images of Christmas. Red and green ...snowflakes and holly ... bring the Holiday season to mind. Stamp sets pulled from the shelf for this card include Christmas Postcard (a favorite of mine) and Winter Post.

Thank you, Geri, for inspiring me with your beautiful use of the these frames! I painted and sanded mine to antique it. The ribbon is Very Vanilla Satin. Red Glimmer Paper and a Snowflake Punch created the smaller snowflake. I think this paper will be absolutely perfect to make beautiful hearts for Valentines too. The large white snowflake behind the frame is cut from this wonderful Snowflake Die ... a large and simple snowflake pattern - perfectly shabby.

I've decided to play along with the Design Team over at Just Us Girls. They are celebrating Christmas with the traditional color scheme I love. Their sample cards are gorgeous ... as always.

Hello friends. It's terribly cold here today. Last night was our Christmas parade through town. Our son walked behind his Boy Scout troop float. It was wonderful with a turning Ferris Wheel and gifts piled below covered in twinkling lights. It won first place and the boys couldn't be prouder! Me too.

Here's another card created yesterday with a few friends over for an afternoon of stamping.

The papers in the Timeless Portrait collection are gorgeous, one can be seen here along the bottom of the card. I paired it with a simple green and white flower print letting the bright red scalloped circle take center stage.

Those little birds are so sweet and really catch your eye layered on classic black and white sheet music. The bow is a combination of Red Satin Ribbon and dyed seam binding, topped with a beautiful red button.

Happy Holidays is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink and is part of the Four the Holidays stamp set. We used this set over and over yesterday ... the fonts are perfect for classic Christmas greetings.

It was nice to have a few friends over today for an afternoon of stamping. We spent time catching up with each other, sharing tips and techniques for projects recently made, and created some new ones of our own.

I love the varying shades of plums and pinks mixed with the hues of green. The hand dyed seam binding is in the same colors.

The flower is created from Very Vanilla Cardstock with a pearl jewel center. I misted the flower with a solution made from rubbing alcohol and Frost White Shimmer Paint - it worked beautifully. These wonderful embellishments are available in my ETSY store (see link on the sidebar) and can be created in any color with either a pearl or rhinestone center.

The greeting is from Four the Holidays and stamped with Soft Suede ink. A button here and on the bow gives the card a shabby chic look - one I adore.

A Christmas Gift

Promises Kept ...

Hello friends. You may be wondering why I haven't posted a note for nearly a month. There is no need to worry or be concerned. (You are so kind to have sent notes recently asking.) I haven't walked away from my love papers, flowers, ribbons and more .. to be honest, it's simply because I've been too busy. Before you ask, "Too busy? How can you set aside your papers, stamps, buttons and all for an entire month?!"

I've been keeping some promises.

I promised myself some time spent getting back in touch with crocheting. Something my mother taught me many many years ago. I've been spending hours in front of the fire with my hooks and my yarns. I just finished a beautiful lace shawl which will be a Christmas gift for a dear family member. Created in a soft plum color, it has a gorgeous open weave pineapple pattern and I learned two new stitches along the way.

Next, I promised my son I would paint his bedroom. His previous color was what I would refer to as "nursery yellow" - not appropriate for a young man of 10 years old. He selected "Natural Hemp" by Martha Stewart and I must admit he has a wonderful eye for color. It's a deep rich shade of taupe that looks striking with the antique white trim.

I also promised my husband that we would host Thanksgiving. Laughter, chatter, football, and plenty of wonderful foods filled our day. Another family celebration consumes my time this weekend - I look forward to seeing some of my brothers soon.

Life will be slowing down soon and days will return to normal. I will be back to creating, posting, and visiting all of your wonderful blogs next week. Thanks for stopping by today!

Cadet Blue

When I visited The Play Date Cafe this week and saw that their inspiration photo featured "Cadet Blue", I was enamored. With kraft and blush, it makes a lovely combination. Although I'm very late with my entry, I sooo loved the other postings in the challenge that I wanted to join in on the fun!

Using scraps of printed papers in the colors of the challenge, I layered and sewed stunning stripes, sweet polka dots, and beautiful butterflies. The leaves are burlap and my flower began with linen, tulle, and a blue print cotton. Of course I had to add a bit of crocheting - a small square motif ... whipped up in a jiffy. Pearl beads gather to create the flower center complimented with matching decorative pins. The seam binding is hand dyed a wonderful pale shade, the tag states "Just for You", and the buttons help balance the large flower center.

I'm sure you agree this inspiration is one that can't be missed. A beautiful trio of warm earthy color. Be sure to stop by for a visit to see the super talented Design Team projects ... and the incredible challenge entries too!

This months photo is full of possibilities. I couldn't ignore the bee motif and the tablescape is a buffet of color! I tried to captured the delicious red of the strawberries and the stunning blue of the bowls...layered on a background of soft greens, yellows, and neutrals, the colors really "pop" as in the photo.

My papers are scraps from "here and there". The greeting is from Perfectly Penned and is paired with a few buttons. The rolled flower is a combination of a neutral woven linen with a wonderful soft suede print from the Spice Cake collection (thank you Geri for the tutorial). I added some hand dyed seam binding, velvet leaves, decorative pins and some beautiful blue fibers.

Autumn days ...

I'm so glad to be back with you today, my friends. Have you been celebrating the Autumn season? I do hope so. The air was cool and crisp the other night which made the bon-fire and hayride (hosted by our school) all the more enjoyable. Our costumes are nearly complete and ready for all the Halloween festivities this weekend. Yes, life has been hectic - I admit it was a relief to have a day to relax, unwind, and create in my craft room.

I adore these crocheted roses ... making them and using them! So delicate and lacy, they are the perfect embellishment for a romantic look. Using a different hook and yarn, makes this flower just the right size. I wanted this lovely bloom to be my focal point so I used a "light hand" adding just a touch of color.

The seam binding is dyed to a soft shade of yellow and is tied in shabby loops. Velvet leaves and decorative pins add warm hues of purple and artichoke. You can see the greens tucked behind the rose. My tag sweetly says "hello" with a stamp from Pennant Parade and a crown background from Artistic Etchings. Lace and buttons complete the look.

The colors were inspired by this gorgeous collection of photos posted at Play Date Cafe. They are celebrating their 2nd Anniversary this week. Congratulations ladies - here's to many fabulous years to come! Be sure to pay them a visit ... there are always wonderful projects on display from the super talented Design Team there.

Just playing ...

Stopping in for a moment today to share some fun ideas. With the temperatures getting cooler, I find comfort in getting out my hooks and yarns. Something about this time of the year has me yearning for traditional crafts learned from my mother. She would sew mostly, but took the time to teach me to crochet and knit. A life long love that I now pass on to my daughter.

I've been playing with organic cottons. These make wonderful washcloths. So soft ... I love them!

Another set made in pastel shades which went to my friend Cheryl and of course my daughter has some too. They are such a sweet addition to the bath.

And roses in vanilla and white. These are small - about 1.5 inches across. Duplicates of the rose used on my previous post. I think a larger rose would look wonderful taking center stage on a project, don't you? (I'll have to give that try.)

Among the roses

It has been a wonderful week, my friends. The trees have almost reached their peak of beauty - gorgeous in their shades of Autumn color. The weather today is sunny and warm. With the windows and doors thrown wide open, I can hear the squirrels and chipmunks outside in the garden gathering their stores for the winter months ... rustling thru the fallen leaves. Soon the birds will come and clean the bright red berries from the viburnum bushes as they prepare for their journey south. I'm so happy to help them along the way.

I've enjoyed some quiet time lately ...creating crocheted bits of this and that to share. My friend Lisa directed me to a beautiful photo of crocheted roses posted on tinywhitedaises. Much larger than I need ... I had to try them in a smaller size. I'm so pleased with this sweet rose that it was the featured embellishment at a gathering of crafty friends yesterday. The ladies were thrilled to each get a rose complete with a single pink bead center. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of these in the future.

My papers are from the Beau Chateau collection. Shades of pink and brown are so wonderfully romantic. Two ribbons combine to create a beautiful mixed bow. The satin is Pretty in Pink, the stripe is retired. Decorative pins with pearls and matching pink beads add another layer of shabby goodness.

Feathered friends

I'm back with you tonight to share a winter greeting. I think these birds are the sweetest little things. Cuddled safely together in an over-turned urn ... not feeling the slightest bit cold with their feathers fluffed up ... adorable. The patterns and color combinations are wonderful in the new Christmas paper collection - Letters to Santa. And I find myself reaching for my Winter Post stamp set whenever I want to create a "post card" ... which lately is quite often.

My bow is a combination of Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon and hand dyed seam binding. The star is corrugated cardboard brushed lightly with acrylic paint and sprinkled with mica flakes. I also added a couple buttons, one with a length of natural hemp.

The layout is based on this week's sketch over at Mojo Monday ... I should visit there more often - they have wonderful sketches to jump start your creativity.

I apologize for the quality of today's photographs. One of my daylight bulbs has burned out and I need a replacement. Of course, I couldn't wait for it to arrive!

My husband keeps my supply box full of wood house forms - he knows how I adore them. The flower is handmade ... a sweet pearl for the center. All the print papers are from the many scraps I hoard and the tricycle is a treasure from a retired SU stamp set.

Hello everyone! Are the leaves showing their fall colors where you are? We are beginning to see some beautiful shades of red, yellow, and orange here in Michigan. Although my state can be bitterly cold and very snowy, I do so love the changing seasons we have. Every one a bearing different gifts.

I've been away for a week, but having lots of fun playing with this and that. Crocheting sweet flower shaped face scrubbies for my daughter with the softest of organic cotton ... so wonderful to work with. Stocking up on doilies too ... you can never have too many. I have more to tell but I don't want to ruin my surprises. I'll share more as the days go by. I thank you for your patience as I visit all your blogs. I'm sure it will take me a while to catch up.

For today's post, I began with Very Vanilla cardstock then layered it with musical notes and an adorable orange polka dot print from Just Add Cake. I can't tell you how thrilled I am with the new Side Notes. They are heavy weight, pre-cut and absolutely wonderful to work with. Here I added a simple line of pearls to one of the many "Side Notes" I received.

My flower is created from a variety of materials including burlap, linen, different laces, and even a crocheted doily I made layered in amongst the shabby goodness. The yellow flower was a surprise found while I was hunting yellow beads for my pins. Amazing things can be found when you reach way, way, way baaaack in your cupboards! The leaves you may recognize as corrugated cardboard ... re-purposed with a leaves die and a bit of acrylic paint.

Mona and her design team over at CR84FN Color Challenge have a lovely autumn color scheme to play with. These gorgeous photos have me thinking of cornstalks, cattails, and pampus grasses for the front porch. I love that the quote is about friendship ... wonderful words.

Ros provided the beautiful images this week at The City Crafter inspiring us with the universal language of music. I love the vintage music sheets my SIL sent me - it's almost a shame to cut them up but they do bring such joy to re-use them in a new delightful way.

Nature's beauty ...

Hello friends. I've been playing with thread again, this time in black. With Halloween right around the corner, I thought I'd make a few spider webs. Of course they aren't as beautiful as those amazing works of art we see in nature. A wisp of gossamer ... gorgeous anytime but especially in the morning with drops of dew.

Digging through my scraps, I found some Halloween prints. Black, white and some olive green. The ruffles are black waffle paper ... added along with black buttons to dress up the candelabra sign. I had such fun making the fabric flower on my earlier post that I created this one with Black and White striped ribbon. Three little pearls were sewn on for the flower center. Geri has a fabulous tutorial for you with a link on her blog. My crocheted spider web lies beneath the flower.

Dark and Dreary provided the spider stamp ... I hope it doesn't make you uncomfortable. I used the Postage Stamp Punch to make it a tag and tied it to the bow which was created with tulle and beautiful black satin ribbon.

Hello friends. It will get cooler here by the end of the week...crisp temperatures are in the forecast. Soon we'll be enjoying apple cider, marveling at the colors of autumn and getting out our warmest of sweaters. I can't wait to see the pumpkins and mums decorating front porches. It's my favorite time of year.

I want to thank you all for the support you've given this little blog of mine. You never cease to amaze me with your talents. I am inspired by your art, your words, and your passion for creating and finding the beauty in the world. Had I not ventured outside of my comfort zone, stepped away from my craft room, and opened my eyes to all you had to teach me ... I would still be doing the same thing ... over and over again. I appreciate your selfless sharing of ideas and inspiration. I sincerely hope I have offered you the same. Perhaps through your visits here you have found some small tidbit of value...something you can use or share with others. For today's post, I'd like to share some goodies with you. I have put together a sampling of embellishments in beautiful shades of orange and purple ... just in time for Halloween. Included are lengths of lace, dyed seam binding, and a wooden house form.

I also tossed in some buttons, mini clothes pins, and some pom-pom trims.

You'll see four crocheted doilies (I've been obsessed with making them lately) and glassine bags.

Of course I couldn't leave out some handmade flowers too .... how about a vanilla trio with rhinestones?

Comfort ...

School is back in session and everyone is settling into the new schedule. Drop off, pick up, clubs, homework ... it feels good to have everything "click". My children are soooo happy and naturally that makes me happy too. I find comfort in "schedules and plans"...some of you may find that crazy thinking "where's the fun in that?". But to me life is good when I have purpose and structure...I guess that's just me.

Pool Party is such a lovely shade of blue. It goes perfectly with my new favorite papers from the Domestic Goddess collection. I've added a few of these gorgeous prints to my new Bingo Card background stamp. Now I can create this vintage game look in any color - just add ink!

Some cardboard cut with pinking shears and brushed lightly with paint came next. Three butterflies all cut from the same paper collection are layered with a sweet little button on top. I used both the Butterfly Punch and Beautiful Wings.

The ribbon is dyed seam binding and I've added a decorative pin. The tag is created with the Jewelry Tag Punch and again the little words in Pennant Parade came in handy.

Be sure to visit the ladies at The City Crafter. Their challenge this week was to use 1 ribbon, 2 or more words, and 3 or more butterflies. Every week there's something inspiring from Kirsty and the Design Team ... they never cease to amaze me with the challenge ideas they dream up and the projects they post. Vanilla soft ...

Happy Labor Day my friends! I plan to do NO laboring today. A few errands, a bit of sewing, and time spent with family is on my "to do" list. The crisp Autumn temps have arrived with a high of only 63 degrees today. It's my favorite season ... looking forward to the beautiful colors.

Seeing so many wonderful blooms created with everything from silk to printed cottons, I've wanted to try a rolled flower for a long time. Mine is an off-white muslin...a length of left over drapery lining. Next time I'll rip it rather than cut it ... hoping for something shabbier. The leaves are velvet and there is a bit of crocheted doily tucked in for good measure. I dyed the seam binding a light shade of blue and created some decorative pins by adding turquoise beads and pearls. My greeting is stamped in Soft Suede ink. The striped paper is from the scrap drawer but the damask print is new in the Beau Chateau collection (every sheet in this package is gorgeous). The lace and button is from Shirley who collects and sends me "this and that" ... thank you!

Nice and Neutral

These past days have been wonderful. First, a visit to the zoo brought us up close to our feathered friends when we stepped inside the new parakeet house. Having budgies as pets at home, it was exhilarating to enter their world. Beautiful colors flying everywhere with songs of joy filling the air ... it was magical. Next, my daughter presented her crocheted apple sweaters (each with a bright red apple tucked inside) to her teachers ... sharing the moment with her younger brother who stepped in to give them to his teachers too. I was so proud of her knowing how much work she put into each project. Later, a quick visit to the bookstore to pick up the latest Somerset turned out to be more than expected. I found a new publication "Crochet Traditions" - filled with motifs, projects, patterns, and so much more ... including a bit of history. I read it cover to cover, staying up late ... enchanted by every page. I hope to share some new projects and patterns with you soon.

Today's post is inspired by this week's Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World. It's all natural, neutral in color, and sooo romantic. I love it. I began with Sahara Sand cardstock and layered on neutral printed papers. I've always wanted to try stamping on muslin and creating ribbon, this was my opportunity to try and I think it fits in beautifully.

Some brown and white baker's twine is tucked beneath my handmade vanilla flower along with a sweet tag created with Pennant Parade. My obsession for creating doilies continues - still loving their delicate texture.

Each pennant is a combination of linen and lace made to hang on a string of hemp held in place with two sweet miniature clothespins.

Back to the inspiration image. Nice and neutral .... and gorgeous.

It's late and I should be tucked in bed but I couldn't pass up participating in two challenges this week that spoke to my heart. (And I had a box on my porch when I got home today filled with new Designer Series Papers - who could go to sleep with THAT in the house?!) I am head over heels in LOVE with the Domestic Goddess collection! The colors are gorgeous and the patterns are sooo wonderful! I apologize ahead of time if you see lots of this collection in the coming days!

Using Whisper White cardstock as my base, I layered on the shabby. Aren't those shades of coral and mint dreamy? The check print was difficult to photograph and is more coral than red (as the picture would suggest). My flower base began as wide lace and I added one of my crocheted doilies- then came a coral fabric flower and pearl. The ribbon is white organza and the decorative pins are from Vio. The sentiment can be found in Happy Greetings ... so sweet.

These gorgeous colors of Mint, Coral, and Ivory are the inspiration of the fabulous Design Team at The Play Date Cafe. You should stop by and be amazed at their creations!

Hello friends. I hope you are enjoying these last few days before school starts. Our kids have their supplies already packed in their book bags! Yes, they are quite excited. I am organizing too and am always surprised by what I find ...

Today I have a few treasures to share ... cards folded from Crumb Cake card stock and papers in black and red. Glassine envelopes with vintage sheet music, an embossed lithograph of St Nick ... another of a small bundle of holly. Dyed seam binding in a beautiful shade of green - tied with red and white bakers twine. Shabby tags wishing you peace and happiness at Christmas.

There's more ... shiny silver jingle bells, star decorative pins and buttons in festive Holiday colors.

How about soft velvet leaves and a shimmery handmade vanilla flower with a sparkle of rhinestone?

Hello friends. A quick post to share with you this evening, my son is patiently waiting for me to join him. A baseball game is on, cookies are in the oven, he has his summer reading book in hand (we're on Chapter 22) ... and I have a doily half done. The simple joys of life are those to be treasured most.

Today's card began with Crumb Cake card stock layered in prints of red and black. Polka dots and herringbone - pure shabbiness. A glassine envelope with vintage sheet music tucked inside ... as if it holds a precious carol. A vintage St. Nick ... something I just "had to have" - it was love at first sight. Can you blame me?

Layers of embellishments create a charming tag ... more polka dots from Four Frames stamped in the perfect Christmas shade of Riding Hood Red (so easy to create with the Decorative Label Punch), a scrap of natural burlap and two bright red buttons on top ... tied on with white string. The bow is dyed seam binding, wrinkled to a shabby texture, and the bell is from my "where do I store this?" jar. (You know the jar ... we all have one.) Some more vintage goodness is added with Twine and a decorative star pin.

I have another project waiting to be shown .. but for now, I'll finish my doily while I listen to a story ... read by my favorite boy. Wishing you treasured memories ...

Things I love ...

Scraps of blue and green created a beautiful print background for my postcard stamped from Winter Post. The bicycle is retired but a treasured stamp I'll always keep. The pink flower was crocheted by me and then layered with lace and a pearl. Velvet leaves in pink and green are tucked in behind. The bow is dyed seam binding with a sweet white button ... pins and a tag are the final toppings.

Autumn

Hello friends. I hope you are enjoying these last days of summer vacation. As much as we are busy making these moments count ... spending our days with the kids ...volleyball, swimming, bike rides ... I do look forward to my favorite time of year, Autumn. Bundled in a sweater to keep out the chill, the colors of the leaves, campfires and smores ... everything about it is wonderful. Today's post has me dreaming ...

I adore the soft feminine look of a handmade doily layered with embellishments and admire the beauty that always inspires me at Midnite Lullabies Studio. Rebekah's creations are gorgeous, I love each and every one ... I expect you'll agree - just pay her a visit - you'll want to leave a comment or two.

Polkadot Door Designs gave me the opportunity this week to channel some of that sweet goodness that Rebekah does so well.. The card is Pink Pirouette card stock over which I've layered scraps of print paper and a handmade doily. I've appreciated many a rainy night lately curled up in a big chair, crocheting these delicate beauties. It's "busy work" that relaxes me and takes my mind away from the worries of the world for a while. I've accumulated quite a few and am excited to share them with you.

Embellishments are piled on ... a chipboard butterfly (from Merry Medley) and a silk flower with a pearl center along with polka dot ribbon in warm shades of Autumn. The heart punched tag has layers of stamps from French Foliage and Nature Walk. The leaves are a mustard color of felt inspired by the felt flowers in this delightful photo collage. I'm happy to be creating and planning for some card making fun at my house this weekend. It's never too early to begin preparing for the Holidays so we'll be focusing on Christmas cards ... which I hope everyone will enjoy. Although the colors in this project are not traditional, the patterned paper is so beautiful I had to stop hoarding and bring it out to share. Our special this month is "Buy 3 Designer Series Papers get 1 FREE" (click here to see more). So today I present ... Paisley Petals. The colors are rich, regal, and so warm. I paired this paper collection with the frame from Notably Ornate stamped in Bravo Burgundy Classic Ink. The sentiment is from Welcome Christmas .. a wonderful set with vintage silhouettes and more. Home for Christmas ...

Hello friends. My vacation at home is nearing an end. The week was relaxing and I enjoyed being with my two young ones. We had hours of fun cooking, baking, crafting with a few errands and projects thrown into the schedule here and there. Sometimes I don't "need" to go anywhere for vacation ... it's good to stay home.

Kirsty and the Design Team over at The City Crafter are featuring houses this week. On cards, in scrapbooks, for home decor ... anything goes! I thought about submitting a set of my embellished wood houses, but since I did that recently I decided to try something different.

My paper scraps are in the traditional shades of red and green. The lace is Victoria and that sweet little tree stamp is from "Loads of Love".

Two bright red buttons with hemp twine add a splash of color. The greeting is a rub-on I've been hoarding. The decorative round "frame" is stamped in Old Olive Classic Ink and fits perfectly in my Scallop Circle Punch.

My house is made of felt with a fabric heart stitched on. I think it's sweet. Seam binding dyed a soft green with a millinery flower is added to finish my card.

A couple photo's of this week's fun. Sabrina made these crocheted Apple Cozies and Lemon Tartlets!

Just Because

Hello friends. Occasionally you need to do something ... just because. No challenges, this time I'm creating for friends. A wonderful group of ladies that spend the afternoon playing with papers, talking and laughing together. It's our local "artist guild" and we have such fun. August is our chance to get a head start on the holidays. I wish you could all come over!

This project never made it to my blog when it was created long ago. Since our "guild" has already created this beauty, I share it with you here and later on ETSY. The flower is crocheted and you'll find more corduroy buttons on the Clearance Rack.

This next card uses scraps in shades of red and black along with Crumb Cake card stock. The stamps are from Winter Post and the sentiment from a retired set. Some stitching here and there adds interest and a button with Bakers Twine texture.

Shabby bird

We are a family of bird lovers. My husband and son keep the feeders filled with sunflower, safflower, and thistle while devising ways to keep the squirrels and raccoons at bay. We are members of the Audubon Society and care for two parakeets. So naturally, I've been admiring the shabby chipboard birds that are popping up on my favorite blogs. I'm sure you love them too. With my son's help finding just the right size chipboard bird from my stack of supplies, we created this ...

My sister-in-law, Shirley, recently sent me a box full of good things. One of those was a spool of antique gold crochet thread. I made a doily and used half on this project. (My son had to encourage me to cut my newly finished crocheted doily in two ... it was difficult.) Another piece of lace sewn over top softens the edge. The print papers are from my scraps. The bird is painted chipboard stitched around the edges and distressed. Delicate Doilies make a lovely background for the French script and postal images from French Foliage. A pearl is added so my little bird can see.

The flower is a lovely coral silk and the bow is seam binding hand dyed in a light shade of pink. A posy is tucked into the bow and a beautiful pin from Vio tops it off.

The ladies over at the Play Date Cafe provided the color inspiration. The Design Team has some wonderful projects for you to see. Be sure to take the time to visit them ...

Hello friends. My husband cut some more wood house forms for me today so I got busy turning these little houses into homes. Choosing a group of four different shapes, some scraps from the drawer and a few embellishments ... I tried to make each letter feel special. The chipboard letters are painted, distressed and "glitterfied" with Dazzling Diamonds. The roofs also sparkle ... but with larger chunky flakes of glitter.

I just had to make a flower for the "o" - it seemed the right thing to do, I hope you don't mind my infatuation with making them. Some lace was added to soften the look. You'll see rhinestones on two of the homes and buttons, dyed seam binding, and heavy twine scattered here and there.

My inspiration for the color combination is complements of Embellish Magazine. The challenge blog has posted a fabulous image in warm shades of brown paired with a deep blue. The design team has some wonderful inspiration to share too ... be sure to pay them a visit and leave some love!

Tall ships

Hello friends! Have you noticed the nautical themes lately? I adore them and the challenge over at The City Crafter is a play on words ... "It's a Shore Thing". How cute is that? I'm thinking warm sand in shades of brown and tan, seashells everywhere as you wade through the waves of clear blue water, and tall ships in the distance on the horizon.

Baja Breeze cardstock is the perfect shade of aqua for this card. Layered with print papers from a Clearance Rack Find ... Autumn Meadows (on the left) and a scrap from my drawer (on the right). Inks are shades of Cherry Cobbler and Marina Mist. The stamp set you'll recognize as The Open Sea .. I've used it before here. A translucent envelope creates a different look while the ship is bordered with a decorative punch. Pins and Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine peek out from behind shabby seam binding dyed in blue and soft yellow.

My handmade burlap flower rests on white velvet leaves. I'm not sure I've ever made a "brown" flower before, but here the color works. A bit of lace, a black button, and a sweet little seashell (thank you Shirley) sits on top. My sentiment asks you to remember Our Journey ... a word within a word and so fun.

Timeless Treasures

Hello friends. Goodness, it's been a few days since we've visited! I hope you've been busy enjoying the summer while staying cool with this heat wave (for those of you here in the US). The temperatures drove us inside this past week. It's been the perfect time to read, crochet some doilies (replenishing my supplies), and catch up on a few home improvement projects.

I love the look of a handmade doily layered with embellishments ... it's like icing on a fancy cake. This pattern is from a book I picked up called "A Year of Doilies" filled with one for each month. All are too big for my purposes (meant for table tops) so I just stop when it's the size I want. This pink doily is paired with a flower print, a splash of yellow and black polka dots. My seam binding is dyed with So Saffron Classic Ink and topped with a pretty pink button from the Designer Button Subtles collection.

The chair is stamped in Basic Black on Very Vanilla cardstock. I used a floral stamp with a light pink ink to "dress up" the edges. Of course, everything is antiqued with Distressing Essentials. The chair is from Timeless Treasures. I love this stamp set ... it has so much to offer a vintage loving gal.

I'm sure you recognize the flower. I do hope you don't tire of them ... they are such a joy to make. A pearl adorns the center of this one while pink velvet leaves add a gentle softness. Hello friends! I've had such fun getting together with family this past week. My brother and his wife have been staying with us. Days have been filled with dinners, shopping, the new Harry Potter movie, visiting with family ... it's been just wonderful. Shirley is a fabulous fabric and clay sculpture artist. Her pieces are fun, whimsical, and make me smile. Plus she has just started her own shop on ETSY that you can see - HERE!

I know I'm late posting and am just getting in under the wire. The City Crafter Challenge Blog has an exciting event planned this week. As usual, the Design Team has once again "out done themselves" and not only is the image gorgeous, but the prize is to be a guest designer on their blog! Can you image that?!?! Here's the beauty of their inspiration ...

I started with So Saffron card stock and layered on print paper from my scrap drawer in shades of yellows and orange. Along the top is another print cut with the Scallop Edge Border Punch. It brings a bit of interest to an otherwise simple shaped card. The chipboard board frame (thank you Stella!) and the tag heart were painted with acrylics in shades of burnt orange and red. Bits of lace made a bed for my handmade flower to rest. I used the 5 Petal Flower Punch and the Fancy Flower Punch to create the petal shapes - dampened and crinkled each layer then stacked them ... adding a pearl bead on top. A touch of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter makes this bloom even more special and creates my "shimmery sun". The sentiment is stamped in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink and is from the Happy Greetings stamp set.

The bow is seam binding dyed with So Saffron Classic Ink and embellished with an adorable orange button from the Designer Buttons Brights Collection along with Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine. The tag is stamped with Chocolate Chip ink and a cheery "hello" from Pennant Parade. Very Vanilla card stock edged with the Scallop Trim Border Punch made my little tag more interesting.

The days are passing too quickly. We are celebrating some family birthdays this month - that's when you begin to realize how precious each year is. Be sure to cherish the moments - I'm trying to remember to do the same.

Embellish Magazine is hosting a fabulous challenge. Nautical colors and images are the theme. You should take the time to stop by and view the Design Team inspiration. The blues are wonderful and with a splash of red against a background of chocolate brown ... can't you hear the waves?

As you know, I've been playing with my crochet hooks lately. I tried my hand at creating lace, but with limited success. I seem to be better at going around in circles than in a straight line ... I'll save that story for another post. Loving the look of doilies layered with embellishments, I used my latest crochet work on this card. Call me crazy for covering so much ... but it was hard to stop! The Nautical Expedition paper collection provided a "ship shape" background and anchors to match the theme. The flower is red felt - a strip with a large scallop edge, gathered into a flower with a long running stitch. There may be more of that flower type in future projects - so easy to create and so many possibilities with different materials. The leaves are simply cut from burlap and some lace scraps added to the layers softens the overall look and feel. The Jolly Roger and the sentiment are stamped in Chocolate Chip ink. A Scallop Edge Border Punch creates a decorative edge.

The ship button is from my drawer ... no recollection of where it's from - perfect for this theme. Seam binding is kept white while another strip is dyed with a light blue ink refill ... both wrinkled and scrunched before becoming a bow. Bakers Twine in a red and white stripe holds the bow in place while pins from Viola add another texture. Pirates and pearls go together ... right?

Pennants and butterflies

It has been a busy week here but I'm so pleased that another room is nearly complete. A fresh coat of paint is such a big difference and I enjoy the "nesting joy" you feel when working on your home. The days ahead will be used to hang pictures, mount bookcases, and a bit of sewing for our new room. More "nesting joy" ...

Thankfully I was able to spend some time with friends yesterday. Everyone gathered at my house and here is just one of the projects we created. It's simple, based on classic colors, and fun with pennants and butterflies.

Beginning with Very Vanilla card stock, print papers from the "ever overflowing scrap drawer" were added. I'm loving those polka dots! The Large Lace Border Punch made a beautiful cut pattern for the middle. I'll be featuring that punch in many a future project. (You can see a more detailed image about this punch via the link.) Basic Black is just one of the many gorgeous colors this 5/8 inch satin ribbon is available in. It ties wonderfully - here I added a white button with a Natural Linen Thread .

My sentiment is from a sweet new set ... Pennant Parade! The words fit perfectly on the Jewelry Tag Punch. The pennants are First Edition paper - a classic newspaper print. I simply punched them out with the Petite Pennants Builder Punch. There are two shapes in this punch but here I chose to keep my lines clean and simple. Butterflies are cut with Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die (which dry embosses the shape while it cuts). Finally, every butterfly needs a rhinestone, of course.

My heart is bursting with gratitude and I'd like to take a moment to thank and recognize those that made me smile. There are a few so please bear with me.

This incredibly kind gesture by both Stella and Ros have presented my little ol' blog with the honor of this ...

I am to tell you seven things about myself and pass this on to eight bloggers that I would like to recognize.

1. I get together with friends for a book club discussion group. It's such fun and pushes me to read subjects I wouldn't have chosen for myself.

2. I play Euchre once a month with a group of ladies, each of us hosting at our homes - a wonderfully fun group.

3. I love to bake really big fat bakery size chewy soft cookies (and eat them too).

4. I've sewn all the drapes in my home - I just can't bear to pay for something I can do myself.

5. I'm painting my daughters room this week (see item #4 above).

6. My favorite drink - Diet Coke!

7. I don't like coffee ... not one little bit! Ick!

Dream Catchers ...

Hello friends. I'm so pleased to share with you tonight my latest project with a sweet handmade doily embellishment. It was fun crocheting this precious jewel, I'm sure to create more in the future. My head is swimming with ideas and I'm searching for patterns. A little overboard? Maybe. Excited? Yes, definitely!

"Doilies are like dream catchers, each knot holding a thought, a memory.

The sum of these make up the history of a place."

This card began with Very Vanilla card stock which was layered with printed papers from my scrap drawer. I don't think I could ever go through all my scraps ... I love digging through them all - matching colors and patterns. The assortment of buttons along the bottom are from here and there ... strung together with Early Espresso Bakers Twine.

My doily is layered on die cut paper in the lovely shade of sage. I added a coral colored fabric flower - picked up along the way somewhere. The seam binding is dyed with Certainly Celery Classic Ink, a soft yummy green. A decorative pin adds sparkle and the velvet leaf another texture.

The tag is created with two punches - Eyelet Border and our Large Tag. It's easy to trim the tag down to the desired width. My sentiment is a rub-on found currently in the Clearance Rack (yep, on sale). There are lots of wonderful sayings on two sheets ... it's called Chat Room. A little more bakers twine holds my tag in place.

Something new ...

Hello friends. Is it hot where you are? Goodness, it's 93 degrees here - and that doesn't take into account the heat index. My eyes are on the skies, watching and hoping for big grey rain clouds. They are in the forecast and the flower garden needs some relief (as do we). My son is fascinated by weather and provides periodic updates - back and forth he runs between me and the Weather Channel. I cherish these moments.

I mentioned our quick trip to the craft store in yesterday's post. What I didn't tell you was that I picked up something else while I was there. Not sure if I could do it, I didn't want to say anything and fail your expectations ... or mine either. I've always been smitten by the doilies all you talented ladies have been showing on your projects. I've swooned over many a card, wishing I had some of these embellishments in my box of goodies. My daughter convinced me to try my hand at making them. I admit, I was intimidated by the thought. She picked out crochet thread (a ball of oatmeal and a beautiful soft shade of pink) at the store, then grabbed a couple pattern books. With her vote of confidence, I had to try. The patterns are just gorgeous and create circles of goodness - most 12" across. I stopped making "rounds" when I felt the pattern was complete and the doily large enough for the purpose.

Here are two I made today. There are certainly mistakes as this is a learning process for me ... so don't look to close. I enjoyed sitting outside on the garden porch, in the shade, playing with my littlest of crochet hooks. What's next? I'm thinking ... LACE!

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with you. It's been a wonderful week here ... I am tickled pink to be recognized by both Moxie Fab World and The City Crafter. I love visiting my favorite blogs to swoon over the never ending visionary projects, photos, colors and sketches. Each visit is like an awakening - a motivation of creativity. This week is no different. Did you see the fabulous sketch over at The City Crafter? Provided by Ros, I couldn't wait to try it!

While shopping this week for picture frames with my daughter, we found ourselves in JoAnn's. I don't know how it happens. Honestly, how do I always end up in a craft store? While there (yes, we did find some frames), we discovered this delicious shade of raspberry yarn. It was love at first sight. Somehow, it came home with us and by the end of the night there were raspberry flowers everywhere. They were like Tribbles - let's see who remembers those. One found it's way into today's post.

With Pretty In Pink card stock as my base, I layered prints from the scrap drawer in shades of vanilla and black. The sentiment and little butterfly is from an old retired SAB set stamped on Very Vanilla card stock with the Eyelet Border Punch adding a decorative edge. The chipboard letters are painted then "glitterfied" with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter - love the sparkle it adds.

A black button and half pearl puts the finishing touches on my raspberry flower. A little spot of lace is always so sweet.

Lipstick happiness ...

It was a simply gorgeous weekend here and I do hope you had the same. I spent time in the garden, a sorely neglected task which still not complete. But when is gardening ever "done"? A bit of weeding, digging, pruning, and a few flats of "Lipstick" impatiens and my little world is a better place. Don't you love that name ... "Lipstick"? They are a delicious blend in shades of pink and raspberry. I love them. Perhaps I'll have a moment to post a few photo's later this week ... 'til then I have this to share.

Kirsty and the Design Team over at The City Crafter are celebrating "firsts". The first day of summer (or winter depending on your location) was just this past week. Of course there are first anniversaries, first homes, and especially first birthdays.

My project is brighter than I am used to or comfortable with. However, who can celebrate a first birthday without some cheer and bling? Beginning with Whisper White card stock, printed papers were mixed, matched and layered. A new collection being released next week includes those luscious stripes and adorable pink numbers (I'll have more to say about that soon). The crown comes from Artistic Etchings. The chipboard is painted and "glitterfied" with Dazzling Diamonds and Chunky Essentials glitter.

The bow is seam binding dyed in So Saffron Classic ink. Two punches created the tag ... Large Tag and Pinking Hearts Border. With the sentiment in pink and a button from Design Buttons - Subtles collection ... I think it's sweet. The pin is a Viola original - fabulous ... just like her blog banners!

Hello friends, the weekend is finally here and after these past waterlogged days ... I welcome the sunshine. Forecasts predict blue skies and perfect temperatures for the next couple days. Just what I need to catch up on my gardening. My son, a young Marlin Perkins (I'm dating myself), is looking forward to all of the digging and planting. I must admit, I am too.

The Moxie Fab World blog has a Tuesday Trigger this week that I absolutely love. The colors are so soft and the title "A Lovely Lullaby" perfect for the photo. Just look at these gorgeous shades of blue, gray, yellow and vanilla ... what's not to love?

My project began with Very Vanilla card stock and layers of pretty prints in shades of blues with some gray polka dots. Those sweet little baby quails following their mother? From the Happy Together stamp set. The greeting is a new favorite ... Happy Greetings. I love it! A bit of lace, a button, and I'm almost done ...

The seam binding is dyed in So Saffron Classic Ink. A white felt flower with a cheery yellow center (a bit stronger than the inspiration) was added just because it makes me smile. The pin is a Viola original.

Soft and lovely ...

Hello friends. I have another Birthday Celebration to share with you! Did you know it's Cheryl's special day? Kirsty along with all the lovely and talented ladies over at The City Crafter are "shouting her praises" and wishing her all the best ... be sure to stop by and share some love.

Soft shades of pinks mixed with the natural coloring of light browns ... I admit, it's a favorite of mine. In the garden and in my craft room. These patterned papers are thrown together from my scrap drawer - some from the Lap of Luxury collection, another from Newsprint Designer, the rest from "here and there". I always enjoy the first step of creating ... pulling out all my goodies in the desired shades of color. Putting this color with that color ... or maybe that pattern with this pattern ... having it all tossed about in front of me to play with - pure bliss. The ribbon is seam binding dyed with Elegant Eggplant Classic Ink ... it's delicious and I love the mottled look. A sweet pink button from Designer Buttons - Subtles with a delicate little pearl tops off my bow.

The gorgeous globe stamp is part of the The Open Sea set and the sentiment (a wonderful font) is from Happy Greetings. A pretty pink velvet leaf and handmade flower adds a soft texture and a touch of shimmer. Yes, I've restocked my ETSY store with more blooms (I knew you'd ask).

Family memories ...

Happy Father's Day! You can count on my husband fishing with the kids all day today. We have a wonderful little pond right in our own backyard. It's the perfect place to fish. They catch sunfish, bluegill, and an occasional bass. No boat needed ... just stand on the shore and cast. I love sitting up on the deck and watching my husband and son ... side by side for hours. What wonderful memories for all of us.

Today's post is just a little something I made for you. The checked and chevron papers from the Autumn Meadows collection (currently on the "Clearance Rack") coordinate in beautiful shades of blues and browns. The large circle is a paisley print with similar colors - although you can only see bits peeking through in this photo. I used En Francais as a background stamp with Basic Black Classic Ink on Very Vanilla cardstock. A die was used to cut my doily shape and Chantilly crocheted trim added a touch of softness.

The seam binding was dyed in shades of blue then tied into a bow with a sweet little white button on top. The chipboard butterfly from Batch of Blooms is also available on the "Clearance Rack". Here I painted it, distressed the edges, then gave it some character with stitching and a touch of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. A bright cheery posy adds a spark of color while bringing out the shades of orange in the paisley pattern beneath.

Hello friends, I've missed you all so much. Life has been hectic ... it can get that way sometimes. We decided to take a week and travel to see the beautiful hills of northern Georgia. What a gorgeous area of our country! Waterfalls, hilltop views, history, the Appalachian Trail and so much more. The week we returned was filled with state wide volleyball tournaments, school finals, and student celebrations. I'm still playing catch-up. A big hug goes out to Ros who so kindly sent me a note to "check-in" on me. I was so touched by her gesture of concern ... my heart is full of gratitude for all the friends I've made thru this blog - you are all just amazing!

I have been busy these past couple days and have some new projects to share with you. Today's project takes it's inspiration from the Just Us Girls color challenge. A wonderful combination of rich tones coupled with pastels.

The patterned papers showcase the colors beautifully. A Scallop Edge Border Punch added interest to the layers and a simple rub-on was perfect for my sentiment ...

The scallop circle is a neutral shade called River Rock on which I added a sweet little flower print circle. My crocheted flower (I made dozens while on vacation ... so relaxing and lots of fun) is embellished with soft velvet leaves, seam binding dyed with So Saffron Ink, a bit of lace, a pin from Viola, and a posy for the center.

It's just wonderful to be back sharing with you again. I can't wait to get "out and about" to see what you have all been up to! Thanks for taking the time to stop by today! Hello everyone and welcome! I am sooo honored to be asked to help celebrate someone very special. She is an amazing lady ... a truly talented artist and such a giving soul. You can just imagine my excitement and surprise when I receive a "care package" in the mail ... my heart is warmed by her generosity. Her kind words in each and every comment are chosen with thought and meaning. Her hand picked Design Team at The City Crafter are the best and they continue to inspire us all with every post. So it is with great joy that I wish Kirsty a very Happy Birthday. Thank you for all you do!

I have never met Kirsty in person but I follow her blog as well as her challenges. She brightens our day with her cards and shares her family with her gorgeous pages. I think she would enjoy a vintage Chevron pattern with a fun feel from Moxie Fab World .

A length of lace softens the look and adds texture. A brayer was used to dye my doily a buttery shade of So Saffron. The seam binding is also dyed but with shades of green and wrinkled to perfection. The whimsical polka dot pattern is a treasure found in my scrap drawer.

En Francais script stamped in Basic Grey Classic Ink provided the background for my Birthday Wishes sentiment in Basic Black. A decorative stick pin with a sweet flower bead displays the banner. The oak leaf is cut from felt with my newest toy ... a leaves die and I love it! Of course I needed to use glitter to add sparkle to Kirsty's day. I hope she enjoys every moment! Happy Birthday!

Robins egg blue ...

Hello again my friends. Have you seen all the wonderful inspiration on the blogs this week? Oh my, there is so much I want to try and so little time! I counted no less than six of my favorite sites that have the most beautiful images and samples created by incredible design teams ... I hope to jump into them all! For today, I have combined two challenges into one project to share with you - I hope that's ok. The City Crafter shares this fabulous image of polka dots and stripes ... such a sweet pairing of patterns. The Play Date Cafe takes us to "days gone by" with a vintage photo in colors of sepia and a touch of robin egg blue. Delicious!

I began with a fold of So Saffron cardstock layered with polka dot paper of the same shade and a scrap of lovely blue stripes. The cocoa herringbone and remaining color coordinated prints are from my scrap drawer. Some old pieces of chipboard were cut into squares ... painted or covered in papers, distressed and sewn. I didn't have a blue flower so I made one by layering three punched flowers and curling up the petals to create a bud. That big beautiful button adds the perfect balance to my crocheted heart.

The bow is seam binding dyed with So Saffron Classic Ink ... scrunched and slightly tattered. The tag is stamped in Soft Suede Classic Ink with a sentiment from All Holidays and punched out with Jewelry Tag Punch. Topping off the bow is a glorious pin from Viola - you just have to get yourself some of these!

You have my heart ...

Goodness - two posts in two days .... I told you I missed you! Volleyball is a big part of my life in the springtime - following my daughter as we travel the state together...enjoying every minute with her. However, I am not one who can just sit. Like you ... our minds and hands are always crafting or visualizing our next project. So my idle time, while she is not on the court, has been spent crocheting ... sweet delicate white hearts have been my latest love. I use the softest of yarn which makes them so elegant. You'll see one featured on today's project and more in my ETSY shop. The Play Date Cafe has a color challenge this week combining purple, green, and grey. Isn't this wallpaper fabulous?! Don't miss seeing the work of the design team ... you'll enjoy the visit!

I began with Very Vanilla card stock and layered on scraps of decorative papers .. one a simple newsprint the other in shades of purple. The print in the lower right is created with the gorgeous Bella Toile background stamp and Old Olive Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock. This background stamp is wonderful and makes such a beautiful background pattern ... I love it. I also used Basic Gray Classic Ink paired with a script background stamp ... En Francias to create a space for your eye to rest. My sentiment is retired but I love the message it sends. The layered butterflies are made from a creme felt and a fun decorative paper ... cut with the Beautiful Wings die and embellished with a pearl.

My seam binding was dyed with reinkers in shades of green and the button is from the Designer Buttons - Brights collection. While the antique lace adds a vintage feel, the soft white crocheted heart is the perfect compliment to a shabby bow.

The Open Sea ...

Hello friends! It's wonderful to be back sharing with you again! I won't be a bore with a list all the activities that have distracted me over the past couple weeks ... but it's all good (as they say). On Mother's Day (after a weekend of volleyball on the other side of the state), I returned home to find my son with the GREAT BIG HEART did this ....

... he planted my old clay pots with beautiful flowers! Utterly exhausted, I pulled into the driveway and saw these "gifts" from him - I was so touched and so very proud. He also photographed some flowers in the garden that he thought were special - I think they are special too.

Even though I've been "away", I've tried to visit all your blogs ... leaving notes here and there - you keep me inspired and wishing for more time in my craft room! I'm sure you've seen the adorable beach scene over at The City Crafter Challenge Blog. Kirsty and her team of fabulous designers have done it once again ... so much to see and sigh over ... be sure to pay them a visit! Here's the inspiration -

Beginning with Very Vanilla Cardstock, I layered on prints from the new Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper collection. It's gorgeous with shade of blues and neutrals. It also has wonderful red prints and I really wish I would have used one as a splash of color on this card. (Next time...)

The nautical images are from The Open Sea and the sentiment from the retired "In A Word". The buttons are from wherever I can collect them (you can never have too many buttons). My seam binding is an old piece laying around that I dyed with reinkers ... shades of blue that I don't recall which I used. The flower is handmade from cardstock with a pearl to embellish the center.

Hello friends! Although I missed seeing the royal wedding live (work gets in the way sometimes), I was able to catch all the highlights later that same day. Catherine was beautiful in her gorgeous dress and William ... so handsome in his uniform. And those hats ... why don't we wear hats like that? I have my mother's hats that she wore to church every Sunday when she was young - I love them. Perhaps we should bring hats back in style ... I'm all for that! Creating this wedding card to share with you today is my little way to celebrate the occasion.

Beginning with color is always a great way to start. A visit to the Design Team over at the ColourQ challenge blog never disappoints. This uber-talented group of ladies are so amazing. Green is my favorite color and just look at this wonderful inspiration ...

Whisper White cardstock served as my base with layers of paisley and polka-dot prints adding color. A scalloped chipboard square was painted, distressed, and covered with First Edition Newsprint before stitching was added. The sentiment stamped in Basic Black Classic Ink is from the Curvey Verses stamp set - a trusty stand by when I need a little whimsy. Some lace from Shirley (thank you!) along with seam binding I dyed with Baja Breeze Classic Ink and embellished with a button and pearl.

My flower is handmade and is created from Very Vanilla cardstock. I've made extra's that you can find available in my new ETSY shop! To finish off the look, a velvet leaf in wonderful shades of green was tucked in behind the bow adding further texture and completing my card.

A home to share ....

Hello again friends. I have a short story to share, I hope you have a moment to stay a while. Have you seen the sweet little houses on the blogs lately? Perhaps they have been there forever and I am just now discovering these delicious miniatures. I adore them! Earlier this week, I thought I'd send a photo of one such collection to my husband at work. It went something like, "Aren't these cute? (Which I'm sure he agreed but would never utter the word.) Can you cut some wood to make something like this for me?" Later that same day (arriving home from work myself) I walk into my craft room and what do you think is on my work table? Three adorable little houses! I was thrilled ... he is sooo wonderful! I wonder what he'll say when I ask for a whole town?!

So my quest to turn these simple wood houses into homes began. My first step was to choose the colors. I can always depend on Mona and her Design Team to solve that question each and every week with their incredible inspiration over at CR84FN. Look at the beautiful imagery they have posted now ....

Digging thru my scrap drawers, I pulled out bits and pieces of soft blues, subtle greens, and shades of vanilla. A coat of acrylic paint gave the wood blocks a finished surface. With a bit of tracing, cutting, and a slathering of Mod Podge ... my houses were covered in color. Embellishments were next - the "trim" on my "painted ladies". Some lace and linen thread, a couple buttons, a shabby blue ribbon and a sweet little flower were added. My sentiment "Follow your heart, it knows the way" was stamped on top of the lighter pattern. Of course every home needs a touch of bling ... provided here with chunky glitter on each and every roof.

Home again ....

Time has never been slower than this past week. With my daughter in Paris, I was counting the minutes until she came home. We would talk every night ... her telling me about her day and the adventures she went on ... me missing her all the more. With no initiative to do much of anything, my craft room lay empty. Now she's home and all is right with the world once again. My prayers will be plentiful when she leaves the nest someday, thank goodness that's years away ... perhaps I'll grow up by then.

Cath at Moxie Fab World has inspired us with a wonderful color combination as our Tuesday Trigger this week. It's appropriately named "Porch Play". Although there's a lot going on in this picture - it represents a simple, relaxed life ... I want to climb into this photo and live there .... it's fabulous!

With Very Vanilla cardstock and some patterned papers from my scraps, my thoughts began to take shape. A bit of lace and a vellum die cut doily adds texture. Some stitching and distressing make it shabby. The "Four Frames" stamp set (part of the Spring is Blossoming promotion) and the Decorative Label Punch create the perfect centerpiece for my sentiment. A few pearls are scattered about for good measure. As a final touch, a fun teal polka-dot ribbon is tied on with a layered white/yellow flower and velvety leaves added.

Hello everyone! It's been a very busy week and I apologize for being away so long. I've been shopping to get some last minute items for our daughter ... a raincoat, adapter/converter, snacks, a new over-the-shoulder bag ... big enough to carry all she needs for day trips around town and for souvenirs. My best girlfriend in all the world is in Paris right now. I am so excited for her - and I admit a little worried too ... but what mother wouldn't be? She called to tell me they spent the afternoon at Notre Dame and that she already bought something for her little brother - "it's perfect" she says and I'm sure it is. She is always thinking of others - my girl has a big heart and I miss her so.

Did you see the beauty at the CR84FN Color Challenge this week? I'm quite late getting in on this challenge and have been dreaming of it all week. The colors are just gorgeous and I love how they work together. A new stamp set came this week and I have been so anxious to share it with you. Here's the inspirational image from Mona ... once again - the quote speaks to me ...

My card is Crumb Cake brushed lightly with a vanilla paint as is my cardboard focal point. Layered scraps of designer paper such as Elegant Soiree and Greenhouse Gala.add color and pattern. When I saw the row of green flower lace at the local craft store ... oh my, I was in love ... I should have bought more spools. The new stamp set is called Four Frames and is included in the "Spring is Blossoming" promotion - a sneak peek into the next catalog release from Stampin' UP! This set coordinates with the Decorative Label Punch and I couldn't be more thrilled! The polka-dot frame (stamped in Old Olive Classic Ink) is my favorite ... until I ink up the next one. You can see more of this set over at Ginny's Place. The sentiment comes from Happy Together stamped with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink (although I didn't use them here, the little quails in this set are so cute). The bow is dyed seam binding with a brown button and a sweet little flower added for good measure...you'll see I repeated the same combination.

Farm Fresh ....

Happy Saturday evening everyone! We're having a "sleep-over" at our house tonight. The boys are engrossed in a video game...their hands leaving the controls only long enough to grab some popcorn. Can you hear the hootin' and hollerin'? My sweet girl has her nose in a book ... reminds me of myself when I was her age - reading morning, noon, and night.

It's been a long time since I've joined in on a Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World. I still visit the blog daily ... Cath always keeps us up to date with the newest products. And the featured artists are sooo talented - I make a point to stop in to see the wonderful works on their blogs. The inspirational photos that Cath posts are beyond words ... she never fails to get our attention with fabulous colors, textures, and dimension. This image is no exception. Titled "Farm Fresh" ... a sheet of pure white with a splash of turquoise and a row of bright tangerine lined up like links of a chain. It's fabulous, isn't it?! Moxie Fab, actually!

Beginning with Very Vanilla cardstock, I layered an old world map print from the Newsprint collection with turquoise patterns from the scrap drawer. The lace is held in place with a row of fun shades of orange taken from the Brights and Sweet Stitches button collections. Some Natural Hemp Twine ties them together. A fabulous rub-on is used for the sentiment....I couldn't say it better myself.

I dyed seam binding with Tempting Turquoise ink for the bow. Layered turquoise, white felt, and tangerine flowers help to embellish a crystal topped stick pin. I added a little pearl too - can you see it peaking out from beneath the petals?

Vintage vision ...

Hello again friends. It has been a busy week, hasn't it? I have only had a few moments at a time to steal away to my crafty little haven. When I saw the color challenge and wonderful inspiration from Mona and her design team (and let me also mention the fabulous entries so far) ... I just had to play along. Be sure to gaze on all the beauty over at the CR84FN Color Challenge. And don't you just love that quote?!

I have had this image for months - straight from the pages of Somerset Life (I believe). Lovely, isn't she?

My card is Very Vanilla layered with First Edition Designer Series Paper (.. love this newsprint) and a fun polka-dot scrap along the bottom from Jolly Holiday. The lace is from my supplies as is the rub-on in the corner. I painted, distressed, and "glitterfied" the chipboard from the Mix & Match collection and the little white buttons. A simple white seam binding bow with a few burgundy posies ... and my project is complete.

Hello again friends. The sun is shining here and the icicles are dripping into the garden. The scene gives me hope that spring is near. I know my tulips (those that the deer and squirrels haven't carried away - sigh) are hiding beneath the ice and snow. They are one of my favorite flowers ... beautifully welcoming the new season ... I'll post photo's when they arrive. The inspiration from The Play Date Cafe has me wishing ... for sunshine, warm breezes, flowers and butterflies. Our little wren paid us a visit yesterday ... my son and I stood silently at the window watching and listening to his (or her) sweet song ...cherishing the moment.

Have you noticed the fabulous new flowers dotting the shabbiest of cards lately? I have and I am head over heels in love with them. So today I found an old cardboard box (plenty of those around here) and had fun making this for you ...

I used a flower die to cut my shapes. They were painted a soft creme and the edges brushed with a light brown (I'll do better at that next time ... promise). Some holes made with this Paper-Piercing Tool gave added interest. The buttons are from the Subtles Collection. The vintage music sheet and fabulous lavender lace are both from my SIL Shirley ... yep, she's fabulous too. The blue print can be found in a package of Blueberry Crisp Designer Series Paper - I added a single word rub-on. Seam binding dyed with Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant Classic Inks makes for a wonderful bow. The little tag was created with an old set I've held on to and the Jewelry Tag Punch ... so cute peeking out from under the button. Here's another photo ... kind-of a "close up".

Sweetness ..

Hello friends! Yesterday I got the most wonderful surprise ... dear sweet Stella sent me a gift package filled with fabulous chipboard frames! And she was so thoughtful ... they included letters that spelled my name! Yes-siree ... you bet I was excited! She works magic with these gorgeous embellishments and I couldn't wait to try myself. Of course, Mona and her Design Team over at CR84FN Color Challenge provided (once again) a fabulous color palette ... as you can see. And the uber talented Kirsty and her delightful team at City Crafter Challenge Blog had us all sighing "Awwwww" with her super sweet baby theme this week.

You know how I just love Mona's quotes, and never has one been so true as this one. I struggled with this project. So excited to work with my new frames ... wanting to make it the focal point, making sure the wonderful embossed detail showed through, and always so grateful to Stella for her kindness ... "over thinking" things can be stressful but I am pleased with the result ....

Painting my frame with a shade of light lilac, rubbing some color away after it dried then sponging on Soft Suede Classic Ink was just the look I had hoped for. The background is created with En Francais stamped with Old Olive Classic Ink. Layered over the script is Fifth Avenue Floral stamped with Perfect Plum Classic Ink. Cardstocks used are Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake. Lace is from my dear SIL Shirley and the polka dot print from my scraps.

The seam binding was dyed with Perfect Plum Ink and the crystal topped pin has some added beading. A soft velvety purple and green leaf is tucked in behind. That cute carriage is from Puns From the Past ... lots of vintage images in this set. I added a purple flower button and pearl to complete my look (Regal Button Collection and Basic Pearl Jewels).

We are like old friends ...

As I search my favorite blogs ... gazing at the beauty I see ... I feel comfortable, happy, and I guess you would say ..."at home". It's hard to put into words, perhaps you feel it too. I am surrounded by friends ... sisters who share a common passion ... who inspire me with their creativity, challenge me to step outside my comfort zone, and lift my spirits with their kind words. As if we've been friends forever and will always be.

What a wonderful combination of colors from Just Us Girls this week Shades of blue, the softness of pink, and a cheerful splash of yellow. The samples from the Design Team are something to see ... be sure you pay them a visit.

I hope you enjoy today's post. I began with Baja Breeze cardstock ... edges brushed ever so lightly with a soft pink paint. Layered on top with a black/white print and pink header scalloped with this border punch. The gorgeous filigree frame (Notably Ornate) was stamped in Basic Grey ink on distressed Very Vanilla cardstock. The chair and greeting are from Timeless Treasures (sooo in love with this set) stamped in Basic Black ink on distressed Whisper White cardstock. While playing with various neutrals, I thought the combination gave the card an eclectic look ... as if layering elements from different eras. The lace gave texture to ensemble.

A scrap of blue print from my pile of "left overs" was shaped with a Scallop Circle Punch. I painted a chipboard crown with a saffron shade of yellow, added some stitching and then "glitterfied" it with Dazzling Diamonds. Having always wanted to try to stitch on chipboard, this was my first attempt. I learned a little and will improve the next time ... but mostly I learned that I love the look!

Finally - on to the bow. I've had this ribbon for a very long time ... just enough Pink Taffeta left on my roll for this project today. A pearl bead was added to the stick pin with the lovely blue button from the Subtles Collection.

Spring sunshine ...

Yesterday was such a beautiful day ... the sky bright with sunshine ... bulbs peaking up from the ground fighting their way through the few remaining piles of snow. I can't wait to get out into the garden once again ... looking out the window and thinking of all that needs to be done to get ready for my summer blooms. I stop by the forsythia to look for signs of bright yellow breaking through the buds. I pick through the winter matting and see little leaves of green deep in the center of my daylilies. It can't come soon enough ... so when I saw this color challenge at ColourQ and the delightful projects posted by the Design Team, my heart skipped a beat! Paired up with the fun loving sketch from The Waltzing Mouse ... here is what I have to share with you today ....

I began with scraps from my piles of yellows and greens. Such a cheery combination put me in the best of moods. Some white trim from Shirley (thank you!) and stitching added the first layer of texture. The seam binding is hand dyed with Old Olive Classic Ink (adding varying amounts of water will result in different shades of green).

With a happy print from Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper ... I cut out my banner pieces. It's an absolutely beautiful collection of printed papers and perfect for this project. A rub-on message and a length of Linen Thread created a bit of whimsy ... so cute and fun to make. The bright yellow flower with a sweet green button (Regal Button Collection) and soft velvet leaves provided the finishing touch.

Shades of blue ...

Mona's challenge this week is truely inspiring. The combination of blues ... in both a smokey and greenish hue ... are just gorgeous. And paired with grey ... they calm me. I am not a "blue" person, in fact I find it a very difficult color to warm up to. But Mona and her Design Team at CR84FN Color Challenge have given all the direction I need to share this with you today ... and the quote always touches my heart.

I began with a card of Very Vanilla cardstock layered with patterned papers from my scraps. A piece of lace, some stitching, and distressing the edges create a shabby look. Distressing Essentials is my tool of choice while the Scallop Punch border adds another attractive detail.

The ribbon I've have forever ... waiting it's turn to be in the spotlight. Coupled with a regal pearl and silver bead pin ... a tag stamped in Basic Grey Classic ink with a flourished greeting from the All Holidays stamp set ... and a sweet flower button from the Subtles Collection ... this ribbon is elegantly perched on the top of the world.

I hope you haven't grown tired of my handmade flowers. I just love to make them. This one is done in a cool, crisp shade of Whisper White ... the perfect compliment to blue and grey. With the sparkle of a Rhinestone Jewel center ... and resting on the softness of velvet white leaves ... this flower takes center stage, looking like it would settle for nothing less.

Thinking of Spring ....

Hello again. I bet you didn't expect me back so soon but I have so much to catch up on!

Dear, sweet, and oh so wonderful Kirsty sent me a package of gorgeous papers! What a kind soul she is .... I am blessed to call her my friend. Filled with the softest of colors and the most beautiful floral prints ... they make me smile and have me thinking of spring.

The dot and small pink flower print are from my scraps. The deliciously gorgeous flower print is from Kirsty ... isn't it wonderful? I'm in love...sigh. The rub-on is the perfect message and the Basic Pearl Jewels add to the vintage look. I dyed some seam binding with water colored with drops from a Certainly Celery re-inker then added a Pretty-In-Pink corduroy button (still available in a variety of colors in our Clearance Rack.)

The flower is hand-made with a small 5 petal die and cardstock scraps. Slightly dampening each layer will make curling the petals upward around the center easier. I added a soft pink acrylic paint on edges and "glitterfied" it with Dazzling Diamonds. More patterned paper scraps along with our Scallop Punch and our Beautiful Wings Embossed Die creates a lovely layered embellishment.

Hello, my friends. Words can not express the joy in my heart as I return to my blog. I won't bore you with my tales of woe ... but I must say I am so happy to have finally finished the last of my medications today. When you have your health - the world is a much better place.

While being "down and out" these past weeks, I have visited all of your blogs and wished so much to be back in my craft room. Finally ... I am able to share something new with you and what better way than to join Mona and her design team for this week's challenge CR84FN Color Challenge? Just in the nick of time too! Here's what I have to share today ...

The card began with Crumb cake cardstock with edges brushed in a soft shade of off-white. The funky orange print paper is from my scrap drawer and the bees along with the gentle honeycomb pattern is from Botanical Gazette. The lace ... a piece from my dear sister-in-law, Shirley. The ribbon is old Stampin' Up and the flower ... well, I've had that for ages. A pin with a button, bead, and tag added is the perfect topper for my project.

The sweet little crown and funky rub-on are from my supplies. Both are so fun for this card!

Hello my friends ... I have been away too long.

Our guest has returned home to France. It was such a wonderful experience to have her stay with us. We were busy everyday ... showing her as much of our local community and state that we could fit in. Shopping in our little downtown shops, trying different restaurants, a weekend away to a waterpark, and a fun night of "laser tag" was a hit ... As was a sleep over with all the seventh grade girls. My children got so much in return ... They practiced their French and made a new friend along with memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

Unfortunately, I have been ill for this past week. Other than crawling out of the house to make it to the office, my days and nights have been spent in bed. By Friday, I couldn't even manage that. I hope to be up tomorrow .... Your beautiful posts have kept my spirits up and I miss my craft room so!

Crowning Dove

I have been neglecting my little blog for the past week and I am so sorry! My daughter and I have been preparing for her guest to arrive. She is from France and the two girls are having lots of fun together. They were friends before the first day was over! It's just wonderful to see them communicate in two languages (both speaking some French and English), giggle, teach each other, and then giggle some more. It truly is a small world.

The designers over at The Play Date Cafe have a fabulous color challenge this week. I love the palette and just look at these photos! I'm smitten by all the shabby goodness here - lace, pink ribbon, pearls, oh my!

My daughter is hosting a party for her friends so invitations are in the making. Here is one we finished today and the colors are perfect! The papers are scraps from the drawer layered on Early Espresso and Very Vanilla cardstocks.

We made the dove with baking clay and a mold. Such fun! The crown is die cut and the edges softened with Distressing Essentials. A bit of lace and some hand-dyed seam binding added a feminine look. A simple white button holds the tag stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink. The sentiment is from All Holidays stamp set and punched with the Jewelry Tag Punch.

Cameo

Gosh, what a busy week it has been! Snow days with my young ones home from school and me not able to get into work. A sick day for my older one - two trips to the doctor and now we know it's bronchitis. Medications are helping her rest ... it's so painful to see your children suffer, I wish I could make it all go away. Thank goodness the weekend is here and no plans on the calendar to make us go out in the cold and snow. Lots of snuggling, reading, and crafting on my schedule!

The inspiration this week has me in awe. Moxie Fab World has a cameo challenge underway. Be still my heart! I have always wanted to make a cameo embellishment but never knew how until I saw one on dear Claire Buswell's blog. She led me to ETSY where I bought a mold - ok, well actually I bought four molds but to be honest I couldn't decide on just one. I'm absolutely head-over-heels with these new toys I have to play with ... you'll be seeing lots more in the coming days! A fabulous sketch is found at The Waltzing Mouse (mine is turned and mirrored) and the color palette over at ColourQ is perfectly feminine. My thanks to both Design Teams for helping me create a wonderful home for my first cameo.

I started with a card made from Blushing Bride cardstock and layered on scraps of Cameo Coral prints along with a Poppy Parade pattern from the Sunny Garden Designer Series Paper collection. The script stamp is En Francais shown here in Poppy Parade Classic Ink. The edges are tea stained with the Distressing Essentials kit. Some coral colored felt, my pinking shears, papers from the Newsprint collection, and a few Pearl Jewels made for a nice centerpiece. I added a sentiment from a Hostess Set Apple Blossoms stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink. That gorgeous lace is from my good friend Ginny - wasn't that sweet of her to send me some?! You can leave her some love at her blog here.

I dyed some seam binding with Blushing Bride ink and a touch of Cameo Coral ink. The flower was made from scraps of Sunny Garden paper and "glitterfied" with Dazzling Diamonds. See my sweet cameo nestled under the bow? I just love her and am anxious to try two clays in one mold. Wouldn't she be lovely with a pink backgound? A crystal stick-pin adds a bit more bling to the "bow bundle".

Missing You ...

Hello friends! Is it snowing where you are? It's a blizzard here in Michigan! No school tomorrow and I'll be working from home. The kids are thrilled and I must admit, so am I. Looking forward to PJ's, blankets, and a warm fire ... with a cup of hot cocoa in the afternoon.

While visiting some of my favorite blogs this week, I discovered a couple challenges that I just couldn't pass up. From my previous post, you know that the fabulous design team at Just Us Girls is celebrating hand-made flowers this week. Swoon ... my favorite little embellishment to create! I made one with Very Vanilla cardstock for today's post. You can see my tutorial here. The second challenge is one of colors. This image is our inspiration over at The Play Date Cafe. Isn't the lilac color wonderful?!

I began my card with Very Vanilla cardstock and layered on Basic Black along with a black/vanilla print from my scrap drawer. To add interest, a zig zag stitch runs up the left side and balances well with the beautiful lace on the right. Yep, once again ... thank you Shirley! Some felt trimmed with pinking shears and a couple printed papers sewn on dressed up my die cut centerpiece.

I added hand cut leaves from some rough brown fabric I have and the handmade flower as mentioned above. Please do click on the image so you can see the shimmer a glimmer mist gave to my little flower. The oh so sweet greeting is stamped in Elegant Eggplant Classic Ink and comes from Three Little Words stamp set. It's just darling!

I dyed the seam binding with two re-inkers. Beginning with a very watered down Perfect Plum Classic Ink - I ended up with a ribbon that was too "rosey" in color. So I spritzed it with a coating of Elegant Eggplant Classic Ink and that gave me the mottled lilac look I wanted. With a black button tied on with Linen Thread and a single Pearl Jewel embellishment ... I was done.

Rose bud

Good morning my sweet friends! We have a fresh powdering of snow on the ground making everything look clean and white. The kids are going sledding this afternoon on a Boy Scout outing after having a fun sleep-over here last night. There was lots of music, dancing, computer games, movies ... and a heaping dose of laughter and giggles. Everyone had a fun and I'm sure today will be filled with more wonderful memories.

Here's another color challenge hosted by Moxie Fab World. Lovely shades of rose and oh so vintage. I love it and knew I had to participate as soon as I laid eyes on this trio! And would you believe that the ladies over at Just Us Girls are calling for hand-made flowers this week? They are singing my song!

Here is how this post came together for you ... beginning with Very Vanilla cardstock the corners were rounded (Corner Punch) and the edges antiqued with Distressing Essentials. The patterns are from the gorgeous collection of Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper. Just can't get enough of these colors and patterns - as you know I've been using this paper collection a lot lately! The lace is from my dear sister-in-law - thank you Shirley! The pin had a crystal teardrop on top so I added a rose colored bead and a pearl. The seam binding is hand dyed with Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Classic Inks. I made so much that I had extra for this card after making this too. JOY!

The chipboard ring was painted first then "glitterfied" with a rose colored chunky glitter. This Butterfly Punch was used to create my little winged friend and the flower is handmade from scraps of the same papers. I used a die to cut out four 5-petal flowers, spritzed them lightly with water, then used the end of a marker on a soft pad to curl each petal up. My hot glue gun (never far from my side) was used to hold them together - nested snug inside one another. Here's a tutorial that will help. I brushed the tips with a creme shade of paint and added a green "flower" on the bottom for leaves.

Shades of Blue

Hello everyone. My lack of a mid-week post shows how busy I have been over the past few days. Goodness, I'm glad it's Friday and there is nothing on the calendar for the weekend. I think I need a date with my craft room. I've stolen a little time this week to find some new tutorials and patterns - I can't wait to give them a try! Let me begin by sharing today's post. The color combination is from Cath over at Moxie Fab World. She has some fabulous suggestions posted and I hope to try them all! Here is the first ...

Pretty, isn't it? Neutrals with a touch of Marina Mist blue. I used these colors to create some crafty kits for my good friend Cheryl. They are full of bits and pieces all inspired by this combination. I hope she likes them!

My patterned papers are all from the Blueberry Crisp Designer Series Paper collection - as you can see, it's gorgeous. A doily is added to the front of each pouch as well as a beautiful blue satin ribbon. I made the flowers from white organza. The fabric is so slippery, it was a bit hard to sew at first but by the third flower I was getting the hang of it. Now I'd like a garden of these beauties in every color! The blue buttons are from both the Regal and the Subtles collections.

The crowns are diecut, distressed, and stamped in a lovely shade of blue with Marina Mist Classic Ink. She only needs to choose which one to use. The seam binding is hand dyed and wrinkled to perfection with Marina Mist Classic Ink. I glittered flowers and hearts with Fine Cosmo Glitter and added a Pearl Jewel to each.

Simplicity

Hello friends. Sometimes the simple things are the best ... aren't they? I tried to keep that in mind when creating my post for you today. I was hoping to use the precious pink flower created in this tutorial and also wanted to give my flower "center stage" ... so to speak. So "keep it simple" - I kept saying. Don't distract from the focal point. Go light with the embellishments. With this in mind, I found that Mona's color challenge at CR84FN was the perfect solution. A beautiful palette of gorgeous colors, trims, and flowers ... and I love the quote too. Funny how she always seems to have what I "need" at the moment.

I began with Crumb Cake cardstock, brushing the edges lightly with a soft lavender paint. Then layered on lovely print papers - all from the Lap of Luxury collection. Perfect for this color challenge and oh so lovely! A bit of stitching and a rub-on sentiment added further interest to my patterns. I won't go into details regarding the flower - you can read all about it on my tutorial. (Thank you for your kind comments ... it made my day to read them!) Be sure to "click" on the flower image below to enlarge the photo - the shimmer is delightful!

The seam binding is hand-dyed with Crumb Cake and Soft Suede inks. A length of scalloped lace added texture and a pearl bead was slipped onto my stick pin before placing it in the bow. Simple ... soft ... sweet. I hope you like it.

Flower Tutorial

Hello everyone! I have had a number of requests for a tutorial showing how to make one of my flowers. You can see this flower on a number of my older posts. Here, and here, and another one here, in black on this banner, and in color on this card. There are more examples but as you can see from these, this pattern looks great in any color - even black! So, let's get started ...

You should use a good quality cardstock. One that can stand up to water without falling apart. For my tutorial I used a soft romantic shade called Pink Pirouette. It's a beautiful color! You will need three flower punches of different sizes. I used a Fancy Flower Extra Large, the 5 Petal Punch, and an older small flower punch. Three flowers of each shape will be required.

Stack your flower shapes from large to small. Stagger the petals as you go. Make a hole in the center (I use an upholstery needle) and secure the stack with a brad.

Spritz with water. This is done at the beginning and during the process of folding the petals. As you lift each petal you will see that the cardstock beneath is dry. When that occurs, spritz a little more water on the dry spots. You don't want your flower drenched but you want the cardstock "pliable".

Onto the petal folding ... lift each petal individually toward the brad. See how tight I am to the center? These small petals should be standing nearly straight up.

Spritz again to wet the dry cardstock you just exposed. Then proceed to fold up each petal of the next three layers. I turn the flower as I go - only doing one layer at a time and possibly spritzing in between if needed. Pinch these petals so they are standing straight up .. or close to it. Making them wrinkled and scrunched is ok - that's what you want!

Finally, the last three layers. Same as before ... spritz, lift up to a "standing" position, and spritz more as you go. See how wrinkled this has become? Perfect!

I thought it best to show you the bottom. You can see how small it is in relation to the wings on the brad. That gives you an idea on how wrinkled and scrunched the petals are!

Now, it's simply the whole process in reverse. Begin to peel back the petals from the wrinkled bundle. Do one petal at a time and work your way around the flower until you have an entire layer complete before you start the next layer. Carefully curl the petals tips down (I use my upholstery needle). Remember, your flower will be damp so be a little gentle.

Now the next layers. Same process here. One petal at a time and complete an entire flower before starting on the next layer. Wrinkled, crinkled, shabby goodness ...

The last three flowers all scrunched up in the center are so sweet. This is my favorite part. Just take the tip of your needle (or whatever tool you happen to be using) and push them back to expose the brad inside. You can leave them tightly closed or open them up fully. Whatever your heart desires ....

The flower was then spritzed with a glitter spray and allowed to dry. As a final touch to this lovely pink, I added an elegant center embellishment from Basic Pearl Jewels.
